Photo by andrea_frazzetta The Dirupo district in Pisticci was built on the ruins of a landslide in 1688 with waste material recovered from the remains. The result was a new village consisting of 300 small, white, earthquake-proof, terraced houses. The neighborhood was symbolically called Dirupo (meaning precipice or cliff) in memory of the landslide. Pisticci is an Italian village in the province of Matera, in the region of Basilicata.
