Photo by Prasenjeet Yadav prasen.yadav The mist in the cloud forest is definitely one of the most prominent attractions for me. I was reading a study that shows that in a rainforest such as this, fungi and plants are essential contributors to the development of mist and clouds and eventually influence rainfall. Plants and fungi emit potassium salts as aerosol particles, which act as condensation seeds for fog and cloud droplets. How and why these fungi and plants emit these nonvolatile, inorganic salts is unknown, but I love the connection of how tiny fungi influence rain.
