Photo by babaktafreshi A prominent comet that becomes visible to the naked eye passes by the Earth every decade or so. This month comet NEOWISE put on a beautiful show after surviving solar heat and radiation. It was fainter to the eyes than this telephoto image through a 135mm lens, but it was still a beautiful sight under dark skies. Here I was about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Boston at Halibut Point State Park, overlooking the ocean. I photographed the comet before it disappeared in the far glow of coastal towns in New England. The comet is now on its long way back to the outer solar system or interstellar space.
