Photos by MichaelGeorge Japanese cities provide a seamless transition between urbanscapes and gardens, where the pleasing layouts and leading lines melt away some of the stressors of the city. Most places I visited were so perfectly balanced in their composition that photographing them sort of felt like cheating. I put together this series of details and textures to give you a sense of the harmony woven throughout Japan’s urban centers. These images are from Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto, the Koishikawa Korakuen garden in Tokyo, a street near Nijo Castle in Kyoto, the bamboo forest of Arashiyama, and the outdoor bookshops of Jinbocho in Tokyo. These are places I’ll never forget.
