Photo by robert_ormerod | Sandwiched between rocky hilltops lies Jamestown, the capital of Saint Helena, an isolated island in the South Atlantic Ocean. The town was founded in 1659 by colonists from the East India Company and was a vital stopping point for shipping until the 1870s. After his defeat in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to Saint Helena until he died in 1821. Saint Helena is part of a British Overseas Territory alongside Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
